Eli Manning, who played college football and starrred at the University of Mississippi, was considered to be the top prospect prior to the 2004 NFL Draft. He was taken with the #1 pick in the draft and then traded to the New York Giants. Although Manning began the season as the backup quarterback for the Giants, behind two-time league MVP Kurt Warner, he eventually earned the starting job and improved his play each game.
In 2005, his first full season as a starter, Manning threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns, leading the Giants to an 11-5 record and earning them the NFC East divisional crown, as well as a birth in the playoffs. Manning showed continual improvement and in February 2008, Eli and the Giants won Super Bowl XVII as they defeated the previously unbeaten New England Patriots. Manning was named the game's MVP after throwing for two touchdowns, including the game-winner with less than a minute left in the game.
