A part of one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports, James 'Buster' Douglas shocked the world when he knocked out undefeated and undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in their 1990 bout taking place in Tokyo, Japan. Tyson had dominated any and all opposing fighters up to this point and came into the bout as an overwhelming 42-1 favorite. However, using his height and reach advantage, Douglas kept Tyson off-balance and stunned with a never-ending arsenal of jabs and quick punches. As the fight progressed, Douglas continued to be the aggressor until Tyson knocked him down in the 8th Round. Douglas beat the 10 count though and came back to knock Tyson to the mat in the 10th Round, the first time the champion had ever been knocked down. Tyson was unable to get up, thus securing the biggest upset the sport had ever seen.
Douglas would continue to box on and off for several years, including several successful comeback attempts. His last professional fight came in 1999 and he retired with a record of 38 wins and 6 losses. However, Douglas will forever be remembered, both in the sport of boxing and in the sporting world in general, for orchestrating one of the most stunning upsets of all time.
