| An exceptional high school athlete as an All-American in baseball, football, and basketball, Ron Blomberg chose the baseball route and wound up being selected by the New York Yankees with the 1st Overall Pick in the 1967 Draft. Although he never completely lived up to the hype mainly due to injury issues, Blomberg was an above average hitter who finished his career with a .293 average.
He is most well-known, however, for being the first ever designated hitter in the Major Leagues. Following his retirement, Blomberg wrote a book entitled "Designated Hebrew", which chronicles his life and fame as the game's first DH. He has also become a manager in the Israel Baseball League and has helped his team become one of the best in league.
