| A standout in both football and track at the University of Miami, Vince Wilfork gained the attention of NFL scouts across the league with his dominant interior line play on the defensive side of the ball. As a result, the New England Patriots selected Wilfork with the 21st Overall Pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
The prototypical nose tackle, Wilfork was ideal for the Patriots 3-4 defense and immediately became a contributor, seeing significant time in all 16 games during his rookie season, while helping the Patriots to win Super Bowl XXXIX. Wilfork became the starter in just his second year in the league and quickly became one of the league's top run-stuffing defensive lineman. While he consistently showed up in the box score, Wilfork's contributions extended far beyond numbers as he was responsible for helping to free up the Patriots' play-making linebackers and defensive ends, while forcing opposing teams to gameplan around his strenghts.
Having established himself as a premier defensive player, Wilfork earned his first Pro Bowl invitation in 2007 after helping the Patriots to a record setting 16-0 regular season.
