| After a somewhat slow start to his college career, Chris Gocong exploded as a junior at Cal Poly when he was moved to defensive end and set a Division 1-AA record with 23.5 sacks to go along with 31 tackles for loss. He was also awarded the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in Division 1-AA and was a unanimous All-American selection.
Several NFL teams took notice of Gocong's rare combination of size and speed and the Philadelphia Eagles selected Gocong in the 3rd Round of the 2006 NFL Draft with the immediate intention of moving him to outside linebacker. Though his progression was stalled by an injury during his rookie season, Gocong still impressed enough to earn the starting SAM linebacker position for the 2007 season and put together a solid first season for the team with 66 tackles. He has since established himself as a key member of the Eagles young and revamped linebacker corps that has become a key piece of both the present and the future of the team's defense.
