His hard working and all-out effort style prompted Hall-of-Fame Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford to label Pete Rose "Charlie Hustle," a nickname that he would be known by for the rest of his career, a career that started with the Cincinatti Reds in 1963. During that rookie season, Rose hit .273 and played in nearly every game and was rewarded for his efforts by being named National League Rookie of the Year in 1963.
Rose's playing flourished from 1965 to 1973 as he consistently batted over .300 and he would become an important component in the Reds' "Big Red Machine" that dominated the National League in the 1970's. Pete Rose won two World Series championships with the Cincinnati Reds and one more with the Philadelphia Phillies. He also took home many individual accolades as he was named the 1973 NL MVP and the 1975 World Series MVP, in addition to being a 17-time All Star.
Rose holds the Major League Baseball record in hits totaling an amazing 4,256 by the time of his retirement, and consequently earned him the title of "Hit King". He is the all time leader in games played (3,562), at bats (14,053), singles (3,215), and times on base (5,929).
This MLB Baseball Inscribed "Hit King" is signed by Rose and comes with a BC Sports Certificate of Authenticity.
