| Darryl Strawberry, the sweet-swinging rightfielder and still the Mets' all-time leader in homers (252) and RBI (733), burst on the scene in 1983 as a 21-year-old rookie and #1 overall pick of the New York Mets. With the potential to be one of the greatest players of all time, Strawberry could, as teammates and coaches would often describe, be the most exciting and dangerous player in the game, evidenced by his run away 1983 Rookie of the Year Award.
However, despite being an 8-time All-Star and one of the most feared sluggers in the 1980's and early 90's, many say Strawberry never fully acheived his potential. Over the course of his career though, he still managed to finish with 335 HRs and over 1,000 RBI and was a member of five World Series Championship teams, both with the Mets and the New York Yankees.
