Drafted by the Cleveland Indians with the 1st overall pick in the 1970 Amateur Draft, Chris Chambliss immediately justified the pick, taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 1971.
After several productive seasons with the Indians, Chambliss was traded to the New York Yankees in 1974 and became their starting 1st baseman. He was a model of consistency with the Yankees, averaging over 90 RBIs with the team and even taking home a Gold Glove 1978 after leading all AL 1st basemen in fielding percentage.
Chambliss is best known for his stellar performances during the Yankees pennant runs in the late 70's, namely during the 1976 ALCS against the Kansas City Royals when he batted .524 and tied or broke five LCS records for hits and RBI, including a 9th-inning, game-winning home run in Game 5.
This New York Yankees 100th Anniversary Baseball Inscribed "77-78 WS Champs" is signed by Chambliss and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
