A promising young catcher, Carlos Ruiz made his debut with the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2006 season after putting up impressive numbers in Triple A ball and playing a prominent role for Panama in the inaguaral World Baseball Classic.  Ruiz possesses the tools to be an above average hitter at the plate, as evidenced by his impressive minor league stats and strong showing in limited time in the Majors, and has also proven to be a solid defensive catcher.

Following the departure of Mike Lieberthal after the 2006 season, Ruiz became the team's main catcher and is being counted on to be a consistent contributor at the plate and a strong defensive presence behind the plate.

He also played a huge factor during the 2008 Playoffs with outstanding defensive play and game management and also had several big hits, including a game-winning walk-off single in Game 3 of the World Series, helping the Phillies win their first World Series in 28 years.
