The Boston Red Sox are just one strike away from winning their first World Series since 1918 and finally bringing an end to the Curse of the Bambino. Mookie Wilson hits a slow rolling, routine ground ball to 1st baseman Bill Buckner. Sox fans are ready to celebrate, while Mets fans are ready to wallow in despair. Then, suddenly, somehow, this slow grounder manages to trickle through Buckner's legs and the winning run comes around to score for the Mets. Buckner's error, a permanent imprint on baseball history, led to a Game 7, which the Mets won to win the Series. The Curse of the Bambino lived on and the Sox would have to wait 18 more years for the curse to finally be broken.
