Barely recruited out of high school due to his diminutive size, Wes Welker eventually ended up at Texas Tech to play his college ball. Welker, an incredibly versatile athlete and player, would then go on to excel as a receiver, runner, and also as a special teams weapon for the Red Raiders. His 8 returns for touchdowns while at Texas Tech tied him for the all-time NCAA record. However, despite his prolific numbers and production while in college, Welker would go undrafted in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Undeterred, Welker was eventually signed by the Miami Dolphins and spent the majority of his first year on special teams. He did, however, cement his name in NFL history books when he became just the second player in league history to return a kickoff and a punt, kick an extra point and a field goal, and record a tackle in a single game. While mainly producing on special teams, Welker would see his time as a wideout increase over the next few years with the team, eventually resulting in a team-leading 67 catches in 2006.
Welker was then traded to the New England Patriots prior to the 2007 season and his career took off. As an integral member of the Patriots high-powered offense, Welker quickly proved to be an ideal slot receiver and became a favorite target for quarterback Tom Brady. He recorded 112 catches, tied for the league high, and collected close to 1,200 yards and 8 touchdowns, helping the Patriots to the first ever 16-0 regular season. His production continued in the Playoffs, where he had a Super Bowl record-tying 11 catches during Super Bowl XLII.
This Framed 8x10 New England Patriots Photo is signed by Welker and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
