A standout at Ohio State University, Mike Vrabel was named to Ohio State's Football All-Century Team after establishing himself as one of the school's best all-time defensive ends. Following his stellar college career, Vrabel was drafted in the 3rd Round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would spend several years with the team, mainly serving as a back-up, before signing with the New England Patriots in the 2001 season.
Upon joining the Patriots, Vrabel's career took off when he was permanently moved to the outside linebacker position in New England's 3-4 alignment. He immediately became a starter and key contributor on the team's aggressive defense and proved to be the ideal player for the team to rush the passer on third downs and other passing situations. Vrabel also proved his versatility by checking in on offense in goal line situations and caught touchdown passes in both XXXVIII and XXXIX, both victories for the Patriots.
Having established himself as one of the league's most productive and consistent players at his position, Vrabel had his best year to date in 2007 when he recorded 13 sacks and 5 forced fumbles, helping the Patriots to an unprecedented 16-0 regular season record. He was also rewarded with his first Pro Bowl nomination, while also being named an All-Pro.
