| After starring at the University of Georgia and blowing away NFL scouts with his athleticism and great hands, Ben Watson was selected in the 1st Round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
Bringing with him superior speed and an ability to get open and make plays downfield, Watson immediately filled a void for the Patriots and quickly found his way into the starting lineup, becoming one of Tom Brady's favorite and most reliable targets. He followed with a stellar rookie season during which he caught 29 passes for 441 yards, resulting in an impressive 15.2 yards per catch average, to go along with 4 touchdown receptions.
Watson may have saved his best work for the playoffs however. In the Patriots first game against the Jaguars, Watson had a team high 5 catches for 91 yards, including a spectacular 63 touchdown reception. He then showed his desire and hustle against the Denver Broncos when he raced 100 yards down the field to prevent Champ Baily from scoring a touchdown off an interception.
His overall attitude and work ethic, as well as his unquestioned physical tools, have the Patriots excited about the future of their young and talented tight end and Watson has become a key weapon on the Patriots' high powered offense. He had a career best 6 touchdowns during the 2007 regular season, helping the team to an unprecedented 16-0 regular season record.
