| A 2nd-Round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Rutgers, L.J. Smith is the athletic, prototypical tight end of the future. With the size and speed to stretch defenses, Smith also possesses the strength to break tackles and be an effective blocker.
As a favorite target of Donovan McNabb, he continues to become more involved in the Eagles' offense and has earned himself a spot as the starting tight end. In 2004, Smith set career highs in receptions, yards, and TDs, and then went on to break all those marks in the 2005 season, when he collected 61 receptions for 682 yards.
In 2006, Smith once again showed why he is one of the best tight ends in the league, collecting 50 receptions for over 600 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also greatly improved his blocking, helping to pave the way for one of the most successful Eagles running games in recent history. Now a more complete tight end, Smith is shaping himself into a Pro Bowl tight end and has become an essential piece of the Eagles offense.
