| An All-American linebacker/defensive end at the University of Iowa where he was the cornerstone on perhaps the school's best ever defense, Andre Tippett entered the NFL in 1982 as a second round pick of the New England Patriots. The Patriots would move Tippett to linebacker full-time and the move paid off as he would become one of the league's best defensive players throughout the 1980's.
Although Tippett did not record a sack during his rookie season, he developed into one of the best rush linebackers the league has ever seen. In 1984 Tippett recorded an astounding 18.5 sacks and then followed up with a 16.5 sack campaign the following season, giving him the highest two season sack total by a linebacker in league history. He would go on to finish either first or second on the team in sacks for ten straight years and finished his career with 100 sacks in just 151 games.
Tippett went to five straight Pro Bowls during the 1980's and was named to the NFL's 1980's All Decade Team. He was inducted into the University of Iowa's Hall of Fame in 2007 and then forever cemented his NFL legacy when he was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
