After starring at Iowa State, Ellis Hobbs was drafted in the 2005 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Hobbs quickly proved he belong and earned not only the trust of his teammates, but also extended playing time.
The undersized corner used his exceptional speed and cover skills to match up against some of the league's best receivers and solidified a secondary that helped lead the injury plagued Patriots back to the playoffs. Hobbs finished his spectacular rookie campaign with 42 tackles, 8 passes defensed, and 3 interceptions.
Hobbs continued his strong play during his second year in the league, once again earning more playing time, both as a corner and as a standout player on special teams. He recorded 44 tackles and also intercepted two passes to go along with a 93 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Hobbs started all of the team's games in the postseason and looks to become a key contributor on a talented team looking for a return to the Super Bowl.
In the first game of the 2007 NFL Season, Hobbs ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a touchdown, establishing a new NFL record.
