A unique blend of speed and power, Darren McFadden took his playmaking skills to the University of Arkansas, where he would become one of the school's all-time great players. McFadden wasted little time making an impact, rushing for over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns as a true freshman, earning Freshman All-American and 1st Team SEC Honors in the process.
Despite battling early season injuries the following year, he followed up with an even stronger sophomore campaign during which he rushed for a school-record 1,647 yards to go along with 14 rushing touchdowns. Displaying his versatility and as a result of the team trying to get the ball in his hands as much as possible, McFadden also took snaps from the quarterback position, where he threw for three touchdowns in just nine attempts. In addition to being named a 1st-Team All-American, McFadden also became the first ever sophomore to win the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back.
Having established himself as one of the top prospects in the nation, McFadden once again lived up to the hype during his junior season. He rushed for a career best 1,829 yards, highlighted by his record-breaking 321 yard single game outburst versus South Carolina. He was once again named a 1st-Team All-American and became only the second player ever to win the Doak Walker Award twice.
After his stellar first three years in college, McFadden chose to skip his senior season and declared for the NFL Draft. After posting spectacular numbers in the combine, McFadden was drafted by the Oakland Raiders with the 4th Overall Pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
