After sitting behind All-American running back Thurman Thomas his first 2 years at Oklahoma State University, Barry Sanders broke onto the scene his junior year when he rushed for 2,628 yards and 39 touchdowns, ultimately taking home the 1988 Heisman Trophy.  Nothing changed when he reached the NFL as Sanders continued to mystify fans and opponents alike with his seemingly unreal moves and unparalleled ability to make defenders miss. 

As a member of the Detroit Lions, Sanders went to 10 straight Pro Bowls, despite playing behind a porous offensive line, and is one of only 3 backs to eclipse the 2000 yard rushing mark in a season.  He set the record for consecutive 100 yard rushing games with 14 and shared the NFL MVP with Brett Favre in 1997.  Sanders surprised everyone by retiring after 1998, only his 10th year in the league, when he still appeared to be in his prime and was on pace to break many long-standing NFL records.
